Take Notice
Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. It can help relieve stress, improve sleep, calm us down and encourage us to take notice of our thoughts and feelings, as well as the world around us.
Some quick, useful mindfulness techniques:
- Breathe in & out whilst tracing your fingers
- Take deep breaths whilst counting to 10
- Imagine putting negatives thoughts inside a bubble and watching it blow away
- Blow bubbles 'slow-mo' style, with a big deep breath in through the nose to fill the bubble, then breath out through the mouth as slow as possible
- Squeeze then let go, tensing different parts of your body for 5 seconds at a time
- Listen to calming music whilst closing your eyes and noticing what you can hear and how each part of your body feels
- Pretend you're holding a mug of delicious hot chocolate; breathe in through your nose and imagine the yummy smell, then breathe out gently through your mouth to cool it down
