Day Three - Fires, Fields and Fears Oh my!
We started the day with MORE yoghurt and some toast and cereal if there was room before going off to our first activities.
Mrs Spooner’s groups began together with a giant stick hunt to find the fuel to make a fire. The girls and boys from both groups split into teams to build the best fires. The girls won and the boys persevered and got there in the end. The boys then won the den challenge as Mrs Spooner was won over by their decorative tree branch entrance!
In Yap-a-tron, Kayson enjoyed making sparks and helped to light the boys' fire. Jake enjoyed the fire lighting and found some amazing sticks. Lucy P was amazing finding loads of sticks to build the den - some were bigger than her! Martina did really well at the orienteering although her group often went off in the wrong direction! Nell enjoyed breakfast and went back for some seconds to fill up ready for the day. Ronnie helped to lead the boys when they were making their den - it even had a seat!
In Grape-a-doodle, Zachary J showed off his skills at football and won a round of skipping. He also confused a squirrel for a rabbit! Easy mistake… Olivia enjoyed making and sitting by the fire to keep herself warm. Lucy S found a great seat for the girls' den although rolling it to the location was too tricky in the end. Lola E helped to give a guided den tour of the oogabooga tower den, complete with cave people! Aimee added lots of leaves to the girl’s den to add some walls. She persevered in orienteering and had a roll down the hill at the end! Johnathon put his map reading skills to the test during orienteering. Chi-Wai and Archie were amazing team player during the den building, collecting loads of sticks and helping to make the structure sturdy. Finally, Nathaniel found the jackpot of sticks hidden in the woodland and showed off some skills playing football.
The Alphas first activity was the high rope adventure. Everyone supported each other on the gladiator course by holding ropes, lowering their friends down or cheering them on. Next was the Leap of Faith, Zachary battled his fear and climbed over half way. Jibril reached the top too before letting go and swinging his way to the ground. Lila was like a rocket reaching the platform at the top - with a yell of “why is it wobbling so much!” Then she leapt for the swing bar and grabbed it with both hands, followed by a huge round of applause from everyone. After that they moved onto the high ropes. Zoja was determined to go around the course and on her second attempt did it, finishing with a fist bump and a “YES!”. She inspired Beau who quickly followed Zoja. She loved so much she went had 2 goes. In the afternoon, they had bushcraft skills, where Jibril made a new friend, an apple called K and an acorn named L. He was also the muscle of the group as he carried all the sticks they collected for the campfire. Tre was fantastic with the fire lighter and created some big sparks to light the cotton wool. Zach WH was a great team leader encouraging and including everyone. He seems to be obsessed with the time - always asking how long to lunch or dinner. Woody is a superb all rounder, he throws himself in to all activities with enthusiasm. He is very keen to win the tidiest room competition. As for Zachary P, he was fab at guiding and feeding the ropes and a really supportive team member.
The Undefeated Simpsons started their day with aerial adventure. Everyone braved climbing to the top of the tower with metal ladders. You could see the whole way down to the bottom! Grace, Lila and Junior flew around the course almost without a care in the world and loved every minute. William and Emily C both tried hard with the Jacob’s ladder and trapeze to try and combat their fear of heights. Lucy M was incredible as she climbed to the very top of the trapeze and with the support of all her friends she managed to jump, looking at her face we think she even shocked herself. Bodie said he is so pleased that he has also conquered his fear of heights. When Junior had a go he noticed it was a 45 degree angle and he needed to do a 76% effort jump in order to reach the bar and he did it!!! Next they went onto bushcraft. Junior was so helpful lifting the tub of sticks through the wood along with Jibril. They all made a fire and a shelter. Lenny and Tyson took control and organised their team resulting in a great camp.
The Unknown group - who still refuse to settle on a name - started with bushcraft. First they had to gather appropriate sticks where many of the group developed attachments to pine cones. Sophia named hers Jess! Later they were lucky enough to actually create a fire! Following that the group worked together to create a shelter Hannah and Alex took charge and created a shelter. When Emily H climbed inside she looked like she had been locked in a holey prison! However half the group decided that instead of shelter building they were gonna re-enact a real life Minecraft Sophia, Jack and Logan all decided to attempt to punch a tree. Logan even changed his name to Steve then Tree Stump! Jack even try to cut the tree down with a leaf! But don’t worry it was serrated so he may achieve his goal in a decade or so. After burgers or hot dog at lunch they had orienteering. Jack, Hannah, Sophia and Adrian absolutely smashed it and solved the missing word first and then celebrated about the precious! Emily H, Alex and Logan showed amazing partner skills and covered the field several times over!
The Groovy Lucazades also started with bushcraft and also got very attached to the sticks. Lola H named two of them: Lee-la who was sacrificed to the fire in a dramatic display and Oy Oy who was allowed to survive in her pocket. Finley also got in on the action and adopted Jim and Jeff the mini pinecones. Oliver knew all about the things needed to make a fire and shared his knowledge with the instructors. The team were really impressive with their structure and Sonny even included space for a mini fire. Lillie wasn’t a massive fan of the cold but did warm up after wrapping herself in Miss Hosein’s giant scarf. In the afternoon, they had orienteering. Sonny, Lola H and Lillie worked together and Lola and Sonny ended up having an argument worthy of Eastenders over the directions. They settled it quickly realising they were both going the wrong direction before Sonny decided his legs were too tired and fell to the floor like an upturned turtle. Jacob, Finley and Oliver all worked well together to solve the clues and you couldn’t miss Jacob running around with his bright yellow woolly hat. On the way back Miss Hosein almost tripped over a squirrel hole - whoops we mean a rabbit hole!
We ended the evening with pizza and curly fries before a Very Potter Movie night! Emily H was so happy about this she giggled. Tyson and Oliver looked amazing in their Grinch and Nightmare Before Christmas pjs and Tre and Sophia were totally engrossed and could barely look away to eat their popcorn!
We’ll be back with more conquering fears, making memories and unhinged comments tomorrow!
Thank you for all the comments. It’s lovely to hear from you guys at home as well!
