At Galley Hill we strongly believe that a positive partnership between parents and school is essential to every child reaching their full potential. We really value working with you all and are grateful to all parents who attended the Online Safety Workshop on Monday and / or Open Classrooms on Thursday.
We know that many of you have work commitments which perhaps prevents you coming to school as much as you would like. Please feel free to email or request a call if you cannot come to school but wish to speak with your child’s teacher. All emails should be sent via admin@galleyhill.herts.sch.uk with the staff member you would like it sent on to in the subject line. Please allow three working days for a response to emails.
Relationships, Health and Sex Education
Many thanks to all parents who responded to our RHSE consultation in July 2024. Your comments were extremely useful. We received 54 responses to the consultation and 85% of respondents agreed that they felt content was delivered at an age-appropriate time. One or two respondents requested further information about the content of our curriculum. Our year by year long term plan can be located as an appendix to our PSHE and RHSE Policy, which is available on our website: Galley Hill Primary School and Nursery - Policies. Additionally, parents are sent a curriculum overview each term, which is also available on the website: Galley Hill Primary School and Nursery - Curriculum.
One or two respondents asked particularly about gender reassignment. This is not a topic we explicitly teach at Galley Hill at all. If the topic is raised, we would tell the children that this is a protected characteristic that adults can choose once they are over 18.
Breaktime Snack
Children in Early Years and Key Stage One are all provided with a snack for breaktime in school through the National Fruit Scheme. Children in Key Stage Two are encouraged to bring in a snack for break time however as a reminder, this should be whole or cut fruit / vegetables or bread sticks only. Many thanks for your support with this. Many thanks to Mrs Makwana, a previous parent of the school for her very kind donation of fruit for our Key Stage 2 classes this week.
National Poetry Day
As you know, this year, one of our school priorities is around language and vocabulary development. As one part of this, all children participated in National Poetry Day this week with a lesson focusing on poetry in their classrooms. Poems can really open the children to a range of vocabulary and we really hope they all enjoyed participating in this event.
Value of the Month
Our value for the month of October is caring. As ever, we would appreciate you taking some time at home to speak with your child about what it is to be kind and caring towards others, ourselves and the environment.
